• The mushroom coral is of large size, with discoid coralite, convex on the upper and concave on the lower surface.
• Septa are numerous and connected together by small synaptacula.
• Theca is present only on the lower surface.
• Adult animal bears a single large polyp with many teantacles.
• Siphonoglyph is absent.
• Reproduction resembling more or less transverse fission.
